Battle of the band 2011
This year, four talented bands will earn spots on the stage at the Hard Rock Calling festival in London's Hyde Park.
Who will it be?
You can help decide!
Hard Rock Cafes all over the world, from Atlanta, Singapore, Edinburgh to Bengaluru, participating Cafes will be hosting Battle of the Bands Competitions. We want you to be there, front and center, cheering on the bands.
Audience participation is part of the judging, so find a local event and help choose a band to represent your city in the worldwide competition. The winner in your city will move on to a worldwide online competition and hope to win a spot on stage at Hard Rock Calling, a three-day musical celebration taking place in Hyde Park. Past headliners of Hard Rock Calling have included Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, The Who, Aerosmith, and The Killers.
It's going to rock, from beginning to end!

Baybeats 2011 Auditions
WHAT’S THIS?
The Baybeats Auditions is an initiative to discover and showcase local bands with the potential to perform in Baybeats.
Together with like-minded partners, the Auditions is a stepping stone for new talents to meet and work with established artists,
hone their craft and reach out to wider audiences. The final bands chosen from the Auditions by the selection panel will each
have an opportunity to perform a 30-minute set in Baybeats 2011. Selected bands are given the chance to develop and be
profiled alongside other prominent local and overseas acts in the festival, gain exposure through Baybeats marketing channels
and potential sponsorship perks. This will not be a paid performance but bands will each receive an honorarium.
WHO CAN APPLY?
1. Bands that have not previously performed at Baybeats or have previously applied for past Auditions are welcome to
submit new applications.
2. Band members that do not have any existing contract with any major music label or agency (to be evaluated and
verified at The Organiser’s sole discretion).
3. Bands must be able to perform a minimum set of 30 minutes comprising entirely original music, with the majority of
songs performed in English, at Baybeats 2011.
4. The Auditions is open to anyone residing in Singapore. There is no age limit.
5. All music and vocals must be performed live. Use of vulgar, sexually explicit, satanic / black metal or violent language
and/or lyrics is strictly prohibited.
HOW TO APPLY?
1. Interested bands can access the registration form available at the end of this page after reading and agreeing to the
terms and conditions specified.
2. Please include contact information of at least 2 band members or band’s representatives.
3. Please upload a music demo of good quality, together with the application form.
4. Applications will only be considered if they are deemed complete. Late submissions will not be entertained.
5. Call for submission ends on 4 February 2011.

1) Jazz Weekend Workshop
Calling all youths and young adults who have a yen for jazz!
Swing by for Mosaic Music Festival 2011’s inaugural Jazz Weekend Workshop on 11 and 12 December 2010! In these sessions, you will:
· Be taken on a trip down the history of jazz, with examples of the different musical styles performed live.
· Learn a few key jazz elements (e.g. syncopation, improvisation, call-and-response) through engaging audience interactive activities.
· Meet jazz musicians and educators including Melissa Tham and Tim O’Dwyer and hear them discuss personal musical experiences.
· Catch local jazz professionals and Bright Young Things mentors Joshua Wan (piano), Tony Makarome (bass) and Soh Wen Ming (drums) dish out jazz standards in a fresh and inimitable way.
· Get a chance to jam with these jazz cats (if you’re ready, of course!)
Here are the details:
Date: 11 and 12 December 2010 (Sat and Sun)
Time: 11am to 6pm, with a lunch break of 1 hour from 1 - 2pm
Venue: Lasalle School of the Arts, Room G301

2) Bright Young Things Auditions
After the jazz workshop each day, we will also be holding auditions to identify our second group of Bright Young Things!
The audition process:
Auditions will be held from 5-6:30pm on both 11 and 12 December 2010, after the jazz weekend workshop. Please note that potential Bright Young Things must attend BOTH audition sessions.
On 11 December, the candidate will be assessed as a solo performer. S/he should prepare a medium tempo jazz standard (no more than 5 minutes) to perform. Other areas including sight-reading and improvisation skills will also be tested.
The audition on 12 December evaluates the candidate as a musician in a band. S/he will be asked to play with the audition band, whose members comprise the 2010 Bright Young Things.
